Day 3, Saturday: As I was still on an early schedule, I got up very early and checked out of the B&B before breakfast, in order to catch the early train to Edinburgh. From there I caught the train to Inverness, which is near Fort Augustus. When I was pretty young, our family lived in Scotland for a while. Part of that time was in Fort Augustus. I still have relatives there, and the primary purpose of this trip to Britain was to visit them. Most of the photos in the following section are of random sights from the trains. |
My uncle Les met me at the railway station in Inverness, at the northern end of Loch Ness, and drove me back to Fort Augustus at the other end of Loch Ness. (My parents own Crianlarich - not the town in Scotland by that name, but a house which my parents rent to visitors much of the year. This is where I stayed for most of my visit to Fort Augustus.) On the way to Fort Augustus we stopped so I could get some photos of Urquhart Castle. Aunt Judy and my grandmother were off at a concert in Inverness, so Les and I went out for dinner. Les then drove me up the eastern side of Loch Ness to see some views there in the remaining light of the day. There is some rugged country there that is the type of scenery I most vividly associate with Scotland. This evening there were also loads of deer to be seen. Then back home for some welcome sleep. |
